Statement of Purpose

The Nettie Lokey Wiley and Charles L. Wiley Foundation was established in 1981 by Mrs. Wiley, then 82, to honor her late husband and to encourage and enrich educational opportunities for young children. It was her dream that it would become a permanent endowment benefiting children for generations to come.

For over 20 years, she guided the Foundation’s efforts to support schools, libraries, and museums serving the Northern Neck of Virginia while also providing scholarship assistance to those endeavoring to work with young children.

Today, the Foundation continues this work by providing funds that assist, promote, and strengthen education, child development programs, cultural enrichment, and healthcare for young children who reside or receive their education in Lancaster County, Virginia. In addition, the Foundation provides support for institutions that held a particular interest for Mrs. Wiley and for charities in the Northern Neck that nurture and benefit young children.
